James S. Friedman has been an attorney since 1992. Jim received his bachelor's degree from New York University in 1982, his master's degree from the University of Michigan in 1985, and his law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1991. In law school, Jim was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, and the recipient of the Philip K. Yonge Memorial Award.
Originally from New York City , Jim moved to New Jersey after graduating from law school to serve as a judicial law clerk. Following his clerkship, Jim was associated with several of the State's more prominent law firms.
Jim devotes virtually 100% of his time to representing individuals with criminal charges. He represents criminal defendants at both the trial and appellate levels in the state and federal courts of New Jersey and New York . Jim's clients include adults charged with homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, robbery, assault, arson, weapons offenses, burglary, and violation of narcotics laws.
Jim also represents juveniles charged with criminal conduct. He is especially proud of this part of his practice, and is particularly sensitive of the special needs of juveniles (and their parents) as they proceed through the criminal justice system. Jim also represents prison inmates accused of violating institutional rules and regulations.
Finally, Jim's practice is not necessarily limited to the courts of New Jersey and New York . He has also been admitted provisionally in other states to represent criminal defendants in various matters.
Jim has also published articles on criminal defense and the criminal justice system, and has spoken at many continuing legal education seminars.
Jim lives in Northern New Jersey. His interests include weight training, photography, fishing and music.
